We are pleased to share that Independence Medicare Advantage health and prescription drug plans have been rated among the nation’s best by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS)!

Independence’s Keystone 65 HMO and Select Option Rx PDP plans earned a prestigious 5 out of 5 stars in the CMS 2022 Star Ratings. The organization’s Personal Choice 65SM PPO plan also received 4.5 stars, CMS’s second‑highest rating.

Published annually, the CMS Star Ratings provide a scorecard on Medicare Advantage health and prescription drug plans’ quality and performance measures such as member compliance with preventative care and screening recommendations, chronic condition management, customer service, access to care, and more.

Earning 5 stars is a significant accomplishment that reflects an ongoing commitment by Independence to provide high‑quality Medicare Advantage plans and prescription drug coverage that exceed all CMS quality benchmarks. Some of the factors that helped Independence earn these rankings include:

  • Improvement to clinical scores and reducing utilization, despite office closures during the COVID‑19 public health emergency
  • Enhanced medication adherence through proactive member support
  • Investment in products that provided enhanced supplemental benefits
  • The provision of an excellent customer experience during the pandemic
  • Waived copays for acute inpatient hospital stays due to COVID‑19 diagnoses, and many other COVID‑19 related services
  • Assistance in helping members schedule COVID‑19 vaccination appointments at regional pharmacies and certain health systems
  • Opening of our customer and community center, Independence LIVE, as a vaccination site
  • The availability of Registered Nurse Health Coaches 24/7 for member questions

Why the ratings matter

Earning a 5‑star rating gives Independence the ability to enhance member benefits. It also enables Independence to offer Medicare Advantage plans year‑round. This means that people on Medicare can switch to an Independence plan outside of the Annual Election Period.
