Hero Image

If you’ve been hanging around Total Benefit Solutions Inc for more than five minutes, you know we don’t do things halfway. Whether we’re fighting a denied claim until the insurance company basically begs us to stop calling (we won’t) or navigating the labyrinth of federal regulations, we’re all in.

That’s why I’m beyond excited to share some major news. I’ve officially joined the American Association for Medicare Supplement Insurance (AAMSI). You can even check out my shiny new profile right here.

Now, I know what you’re thinking: "Ed, another acronym? Really?" But hang with me for a second, because this isn’t just a badge for my email signature. It’s a huge win for you, our clients, and anyone out there who’s feeling bullied by the big insurance machine.

Why AAMSI? Because You Deserve an Expert, Not a "Order Taker"

The world of Medicare is crowded. Every October, your mailbox probably looks like a paper shredder exploded, filled with "urgent" notices and colorful flyers from every insurance company under the sun. Most people find themselves talking to a "utility" broker, someone who just clicks a few buttons and gives you the cheapest plan on the screen.

Joining AAMSI is our way of drawing a line in the sand. It’s a national organization dedicated to one thing: helping people understand and navigate Medicare Supplement insurance. By being part of this group, we’re committing to a higher standard of ethics and a deeper level of specialized knowledge.

Think of it this way: if you were going into a high-stakes legal battle, would you want a general lawyer who "does a bit of everything," or a specialist who knows the judge’s middle name and exactly which precedents will win the case? Exactly. We’re the specialists.

Advocacy Lighthouse

The Advocacy Difference: We Never Accept "No"

Our mission at Total Benefit Solutions Inc has always been rooted in advocacy. If you’ve read our story, you know this isn't just business for me, it's personal. It started when I had to fight for my own daughter’s life-saving healthcare. That fire hasn't gone out; if anything, it’s getting hotter.

When we look at secondary insurance with Medicare (coverage that picks up the "gaps" Medicare leaves behind), we aren't just looking at premiums. We’re looking at your rights. We’ve seen too many people get stuck with bills they shouldn't have to pay because they didn't have an advocate in their corner.

With our AAMSI membership, we have even more resources to ensure that when an insurance company says "no," we have the data and the backing to say, "Try again."

Group Medicare Plans: The Secret Weapon for Business Owners

One area where we’re seeing a lot of confusion lately is group medicare plans. If you’re a small to medium-sized business owner, you might think that once your employees hit 65, they just "go on Medicare" and they’re off your plate.

Not so fast.

There are massive advantages to offering medicare supplement group plans as part of your employee benefits package. It can often be more cost-effective for the company while providing superior coverage for the employee.

  • Cost Savings: Often, moving 65+ employees to a group Medicare setup can lower your overall group health premiums.
  • Employee Retention: Offering a high-quality "Plan G" or "Plan N" (specific types of Medigap plans) as a group benefit is a powerful way to show your senior staff they are valued.
  • Simplicity: We handle the advocacy. If an employee has a billing issue, they don't call HR; they call us.

Group vs Individual Medicare

Understanding Medicare Employer Coverage

Navigating medicare employer coverage is like trying to solve a Rubik's cube in the dark. If you have fewer than 20 employees, the rules are completely different than if you have 100. If you mess up the "Secondary Payer" rules, you (and your employees) could face permanent late-enrollment penalties.

(A "late-enrollment penalty" is a monthly fee added to your Medicare Part B or Part D premium for as long as you have the coverage, it's a mistake that keeps on taking.)

Our role as AAMSI members is to make sure those mistakes never happen. We analyze your current group size and your employees' needs to determine if Medicare should be their primary or secondary coverage. We don’t just give you a brochure; we give you a roadmap.

Meet Dr. Ben E. Fitz: Your New Best Friend in Medicare

To make this whole process a little less "clinical" and a lot more approachable, we’ve brought in a specialist of our own. Meet Dr. Ben E. Fitz. He’s the personification of our "Benefit Fighter" spirit.

Dr. Ben E. Fitz

Dr. Fitz doesn't just "check boxes." He’s here to remind you that you have an advocate. Whether it's explaining the nuances of Senior Benefits or fighting a claim that the insurance carrier "accidentally" coded wrong, Dr. Fitz (and the whole TBS team) is on the job.

What This Means for You Right Now

You don’t have to wait until Open Enrollment to talk to us. In fact, if you’re approaching 65 or you’re a business owner wondering how to handle your aging workforce, the best time to talk was yesterday. The second best time is right now.

As members of AAMSI, we have access to the most up-to-date actuarial data and regulatory changes. We can shop the entire market to find the plan that fits your specific doctors, medications, and budget. We’re independent, which means we don’t work for the insurance companies, we work for you.

Take the Next Step

If you’re tired of the "no's," the bureaucracy, and the feeling that you're just another policy number, give us a shout. We’re ready to put our new AAMSI resources and our old-school advocacy to work for you.
